Description
Fentanyl Citrate Injection
Fentanyl Citrate Injection, 3 vials per package. A nonpyrogenic, sterile solution of Fentanyl citrate in water for injection. Fentanyl Citrate is a potent narcotic analgesic given only by the intramuscular or intravenous routes of inoculation. Its short-term analgesia used during anesthetic periods, induction, premeditation, and maintenance, and during immediate postoperative times as the need arises. It is an analgesic supplement in regional or general anesthesia of Fentanyl Citrate Injection.
Concomitant with neuroleptic-like droperidol as an anesthesia induction and as an adjunct in maintaining local and general anesthesia.
Adult
Doctors administer the dose differently to each.
For premedication
50-100mcg 0r 1-2ml by IM injection is given 30-60 minutes before surgery or other medical procedures.
For an adjunct to regional anesthesia
50-100mcg or 1-2mL via slow IV or IM injection for 1-2 minutes
Post-operation
50-100mcg or 1-2ml via IM injection.
Warnings and precautions
Only people who are skilled explicitly in IV anesthetics and respiratory management in a recognized facility should administer this drug. When giving this medicine, there should be an opioid antagonist, intubation and resuscitate equipment, and oxygen readily available. The doctor should monitor respiratory depression strictly especially after an operation. Patients with a history of head injury or brain tumor, hypertension, increased intracranial pressure, pulmonary disease, drug abuse, cardiac bradyarrhythmias should avoid a drug. Doctors should monitor vital signs routinely. The medication is not recommended for debilitated, elderly pregnant women, and nursing mothers.
Interactions
People who are within two weeks of MAOIs should be cautious with this drug. The drug can also interact with high doses of fentanyl and nitrous oxide to cause cardiovascular depression. When it interacts with concomitant droperidol, it can cause a decrease in pulmonary arterial hypotension and pressure. It causes additive effects when it interacts with other CNS depressants like tranquilizers, barbiturates, narcotics, or general anesthetics. It is wise to reduce dosage if you are taking these drugs too.
